In the wake of the fatal shooting of a Mormon woman at her home in Mississippi last week, members of the Missouri Baptist Church are considering a change in their doctrinal doctrine, according to a report in The Associated Press.
The church is the target of a wave of anger over the church’s involvement in a deadly church-related shooting in Missouri last month, which killed five people.
In an article published on Sunday, the church is facing pressure to change its doctrine, which includes calling for “reclaiming the Lord Jesus Christ as the only true and living God,” according to the AP.
In a statement on Sunday that also included the church member’s name, the Rev. Johnnie Williams of the church wrote, “We must honor and defend the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Gospel of Latter-day Saints.”
The church has not commented on the proposed change.
