VINCE GARDNER/REUTERS A church in Vineyard will be built next to the former site of the RTE Tower, a RTE employee said on Monday.
The church is being built on the site of an RTE church which was demolished in the 1950s.
Its the first church of its kind in the UK.
The building, which will include an auditorium, chapel and a reception hall, will be part of a new community, Vineyard Community Centre.
It was built by the former Vineyard and Riverland Trust, which has been in administration since 2012.RTE and Vineyard Churches were two of the world’s largest Christian churches when they opened in 1957.
They became the first UK churches to operate from the RTS building in 1957, but the RTF’s RTE building was torn down in the 1970s.RTV ran the church, which had more than 1,600 members, until it was sold in 2008.
Rtv’s church was demolished to make way for the RTA tower, which replaced it.
Vineyard Community Centres have been built at other sites across the UK, including at a church in Leicester.
In December, the church was renamed Vineyard Memorial Chapel in honour of one of its first parishioners, who died of pneumonia.
It was demolished and rebuilt.
